Our 2007 Christmas concerts will take place at the Port Macquarie Uniting Church, Sherwood Road,
on Saturday 15th December and Sunday 16th December 2007 at 1.30 pm each day.
CANTABILE female ensemble will once again delight audiences as part of "A Classic Christmas" program. Benjamin Britten's iconic work for harp & treble voices - "A Ceremony of Carols" - is always a favourite, with interesting harmonies and Old English words. Audiences are always moved by this amazing juxtaposition of music and text as the eleven short movements unfold, creating a rich musical tapestry not often heard in treble music.
The carols we will hear are not Christmas Carols that are well-known to any of us, so be prepared for a different and very beautiful twenty-five minutes. Solo and duet work in this piece will be performed by soprano Nina Mestric and mezzo Fran Pearce - quite a delicious blend. Playing the harp is the renowned Newcastle musician Miriam Lawson.
CANTORUS will perform gorgeous Baroque favourites and some Fauré and Rutter as well. Vivace Voices from Hastings Youth Choirs under the direction of Helen Pain will open the concerts. Simply a program you cannot miss, and great timing - 1.30 to 3.30 both concerts, so you can still party on!
