George Frideric Handel was born on 23 February 1685 in Halle, Germany, and died on 14 April, 1759 in London. The sacred oratorio Messiah is without question one of the most popular works in the choral repertoire today, with amateur and professional musicians everywhere performing this work as a seasonal entertainment, being rewarded with the satisfaction of taking part in one of the great communal musical events.
This gorgeous baroque music is thus an all-time favourite with singers and audiences, and was performed to great effect when the beautiful voices of Cantorus combined with the accompanying skills of renowned Sydney organist Heather Moen-Boyd. To sing this fabulous choral music was an exhilarating experience for the choir; and for those who joined the audience in Taree or Port Macquarie it was a musical experience they will surely always remember.
