Cantorus joined visiting Japanese and local Sydney choirs to sing Mozart's Requiem in the Opera House with the Sydney Concert Orchestra Adele Miles, the Alto Section Leader declared "I don't think anybody who performed at the Opera House didn't feel a huge buzz as we entered the concert hall. Walking down the corridor to get there the first time, the alto in front of me gave a little skip of joy and I'm sure I heard a squeal of delight coming from another part of the walkway!" |
Also, from President Gillian Bennett's report:
"I would like to pass on my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all those choristers who travelled to Sydney to sing the Mozart Requiem in the Opera House. You were, and always are, amazing.
I don't think it can be said often enough how professional the choristers are and this certainly showed in Sydney. When we turn pages we do it quietly, at the end of a movement we remain still and wait for the conductor, and when we sing we put our heart and souls into it (and for the most part stay in time!!). Steve Watson, MD of the Beethoven Society, said that the massed choir had never sounded better, and I believe that as a choir we can rightfully take much of the credit for that.
I would like to thank Robyn Ryan, on behalf of everyone, for being such a dynamic and professional MD and I hope she realises how much we respect and appreciate all she does for our choir.
As I have said before, I am immensely proud and feel privileged to be part of such a great group of people, and would particularly like to thank the Section Leaders and the committee from both this year and last year. These people put in that extra little bit - ok a big bit - and of course do so on a purely voluntary basis. "
